Keeping your workspace clean and tidy is often the last thing you want to do on a Friday afternoon as you look forward to the start of the weekend. But if you manage to miss one or two weeks of cleaning, it can quickly spiral out of control. It doesn’t take long before bacteria begin to breed and spread around your workspace and before you know it, you’re spreading this bacteria to everybody else in the office. Creating a sickly and ineffective workplace, often grinding it to a halt.

In today’s blog, System Hygiene explain what happens when you leave your workspace unclean and why it’s important to stay on top of it.

The average work desk is 400 times dirtier than the average toilet seat, yet people don’t take the same issues into consideration. You wouldn’t sit on a dirty toilet, so take the same approach with your workspace.

With around 80% of common infections transmitted by touch it’s vital that you keep your workspace and office as clean as you can.

Ways of Tackling Bacteria

Keeping computer and desk wipes nearby reinforces that behaviour, if they’re placed too far away it’s too easy to forget and leave it till another day. Stay on top of it and it won’t be difficult.

Some other simple ways of tackling the spread of bacteria is to avoid eating at your desk completely. Adding food into the equation exponentially increases the chance of bacteria spreading as crumbs get lodged in-between keys and build up in small crevices in your mouse and telephone.

Make sure to pick a fixed cleaning day, weekly that the whole office is involved in. That way, the office culture is focused on cleanliness and hygiene that helps with the productivity and effectiveness of the office. You’ll see the results manifest in the business becoming more successful as your employees are much happier in a clean and hygienic workspace.
