Cleaning Tips for your Kitchen

The kitchen is the room with the largest possibility of becoming unclean; with food preparation and cooking taking place on a daily basis, the kitchen is somewhere you should focus your efforts when it comes to cleaning. It can be a pain to clean, with so many different appliances and surfaces but you’ll thank yourself later when you’re cooking in a clean environment!

Whether it is your kitchen at home or a communal kitchen in your workplace, here at System Hygiene we have put together a few tips to help you keep the kitchen clean easily!

Clean as you go

You’ll find cleaning up a lot easier if you clean up any mess you make as you are preparing or cooking, rather than leaving it until afterwards. Wiping up any spills as soon as they happen means you don’t have to come back to it later, plus it will reduce the risk of any stains on the work surfaces.

Wiping the countertops, the hob and even the inside of the microwave can help maintain your kitchen and keep everything clean.

Make sure your bins are big enough

Are there a lot of you who use the kitchen area? It may be worth investing in bigger bins or recycling containers to ensure you don’t have overflowing rubbish in the kitchen. This is unclean and could be a safety hazard. Making sure you empty the bins regularly will also stop your kitchen from developing any unwanted smells!

Wipe down the sink

After washing up, ensure you wipe down the sink as this will mean your dishes aren’t sitting in extra dirt next time you wash up. This is a little job that only takes 2 minutes but could make a big difference; your kitchen will also look cleaner with a sparkling sink every time you walk in! We have no doubt that food will end up in the sink at some point too, so cleaning the sink every now and again can remove possible bacteria that is left behind.

Clean utensil drawers

It seems to be counterproductive to put clean knives and forks into a dirty drawer; sorting through your utensils and cleaning out the drawer every now and again could prove to be very helpful. Clean storage space for your utensils or other kitchen equipment is essential in keeping everything in good condition.

It may be worth going through your utensils and getting rid of anything that has seen better days too; it is pointless to keep things that are ruined or old if you have utensils in better condition!

Wipe down the interior of the fridge

Wherever there is food, there is a breeding ground for bacteria. It is a good idea to wipe down the shelves and drawers in the fridge every now and again to help keep everything clean. It also gets rid of any mess that could be left behind from food or drink kept in there.
