About Derian House

Derian House opened its doors for the first time in October 1993 in response to a real need for children’s hospice care in Lancashire and Cumbria.

Prior to 1991 there were no dedicated respite or palliative support facilities in Lancashire for families of children with life shortening conditions, and it was in response to a plea for funding for a children’s hospice from the Haydock family from Leyland, whose son Derek was suffering from a life threatening condition, that the concept of Derian House was born.

Derian House Today

Today, Derian House is renowned throughout the region as being at the forefront of children’s palliative and respite care.

Families who have a child with a life shortening condition can choose from a range of care and support services to meet their Family Support, and end of life care, either at home, or in Derian House. The emphasis is on giving support to children and their families, and providing them with choices which deliver an approach to care as individual as they are.

Derian House has an enviable reputation in setting exceptionally high standards in children’s hospice care. With a catchment area covering the whole of Lancashire and the South Lakes it is currently supporting more than 300 families who have a child or young adult suffering from a life shortening condition, as well as providing bereavement support for a further 200 families.

System Hygiene and Derian House

System Hygiene are proud to support Derian House by sponsoring and supporting the charity's events. Together, we aim to raise awareness of the hospice's inspirational work and help them towards fundraising the £3.85 million they need to continue meeting the needs of children and families throughout Lancashire and Cumbria!

This year, we are delighted to have supported Derian House in their Winter Sparkle and Lights of Love events, as well as their first ever up-cycled Fashion Show.
